The girls new beds

The story: Kayla has been sleeping in the bed that was mine from when I was little till I moved out of my parents house. My mom had gotten it from my granny (she was one of my great grandmothers) and my granny had used it for one of my great uncles. So when we needed a big girl bed for Claire I asked my mom to see if there might be another bed in my granny's barn (they have all kinds of stuff in there). Well my mom looked and good enough there was another bed in there. It was an old Army barracks bed and was rusted but we found a guy that does powder coating (he usually does car parts, etc) and he made it a pretty white. Well it was about 6 inches narrower and 6 inches longer than a standard twin mattress. It didn't seem to be much of a problem until I put bed rails on it and the mattresses just wanted to tip over so I started looking on Craigslist.org for another bed. It really broke my heart that we wouldn't be able to use it since it came from the family but short of buying a custom mattress there really wasn't much else we could do. Well I came across a set of twin matching beds in Fairhope, AL. The lady said they were old when she bought them for her girls 50 years ago. Well I had Erik get the truck out and headed over to Fairhope with my hopes flying high that they were the perfect beds. Guess what, they were perfect and for $60 each and she threw in a set of mattresses for free, I was so happy!! My mom gave me $40 and I had $40 that my grandma gave the girls for their birthdays so it only cost me $40 which was really nice. Since I'm giving my mom back both the old beds (which I had both powder coated) she said she would pay to powder coat the new ones (which isn't cheap at $100 each). Well I went ahead and had one done and it is so beautiful! I love old metal beds. There's only 4 parts - the headboard, footboard, & 2 side rails.

I love those beds!!! They are so cute and unique. That is exactly what I would dream of if I had a little girl! Maybe I'll get lucky and find antique beds for the boys..
